NEWROC Advocates for Economic Diversification Amid Live Sheep Trade Transition

The North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils (NEWROC) is calling for government investment to help its member communities adapt as the Federal Government phases out the live sheep export trade. NEWROC representatives recently met with key officials in WA and Canberra to present a policy position focused on economic diversification.

NEWROC President Cr Melanie Brown highlighted the serious challenges posed by the transition, stressing the need for funding to support new industries and protect the region’s economic future. The policy outlines priorities such as agribusiness innovation, workforce development, and infrastructure upgrades to secure resilience across the Wheatbelt.
