Turning local attractions into economic drivers

As part of the new Economic Development Strategy, the seven member shires of NEWROC are working in partnership with NEWTRAVEL to unlock the full potential of tourism in the North Eastern Wheatbelt.

In 2024, over 15,000 overnight stays were recorded in Shire-owned and managed accommodation alone – a clear sign that visitors are already discovering what our region has to offer.

But tourism in our communities is about more than a bed for the night. It’s about:

  • The Wheatbelt Way experience
  • Vibrant local events
  • Job creation and economic diversity
  • New opportunities for small businesses

By building on our region’s unique character and strengthening tourism infrastructure, we’re turning local pride into lasting economic opportunity – and creating places people want to return to.
