NEWROC Health Strategy

$19,240 secured to complete NEWROC Health Strategy

The North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils (NEWROC) has secured Royalties for Regions funding through Community Chest Funds (CCF) to develop a Health Strategy specific to the six member Shires.

The NEWROC includes the shires of Koorda, Mount Marshall, Mukinbudin, Nungarin, Trayning and Wyalkatchem.

The Health strategy will be a first in the Wheatbelt and will provide a common vision and philosophy for primary and allied health services; government and private.

“The Health Strategy will investigate and detail common planning and delivery strategies that are specifically targeted at the needs of residents in the NEWROC,” said Cr Eileen O’Connell, NEWROC Chair.

The Health Strategy will be approached on a geographical basis but also the natural flow of patient care and will aim to improve access to and resources provided for public health services, address workforce issues within the local health industry, implement the primary and allied health service recommendations from the NEWROC Age Friendly Community Plan, improve the health and community outcomes of the NEWROC Kununoppin Bonded Medical Scholarship and assist in appropriately planning and improving GP access and sustainability within the region.

“It was announced last week that the Central East Aged Care Alliance (CEACA) has secured $19.98 million from Royalties for Regions to deliver a $23.3 million housing initiative, the Health Strategy will complement the infrastructure developments by providing health planning for beneficiaries going into the accommodation,” said Cr O’Connell.
