Honorary Freeman bestowed on Mr Peter Geraghty

The Shires of Mukinbudin, Mt Marshall, Trayning and Nungarin have named Mr Peter Geraghty an Honorary Freeman of each Shire. This is the most prestigious form of honour or recognition each of the Shires can confer upon an individual
A joint ceremony was held on the 28 June 2016 in Mukinbudin to recognise Peter, followed by a luncheon.

NEWROC Chair Cr Eileen O’Connell said the four Shires bestowed the honour on an exceptional individual who, in the opinion of each of the Shires, rendered outstanding services to the St John’s Ambulance Service and the communities of Mukinbudin, Mt Marshall, Trayning and Nungarin.

The ceremony was attended by over fifty people including St John Ambulance volunteers, Steve Hall the Assistant Regional Manager of St John Ambulance Australia, NEWROC Shire Presidents, CEO’s and Councillors and staff from the Kununoppin Hospital.

Cr Fred Tarr, President of the Shire of Trayning said “I have had the pleasure of knowing Peter for 26yrs.
He commenced at the Kununoppin St Johns Ambulance in October 1980 and in this time he has been the heart and soul of our sub centre, ensuring it is the best in the state and that our communities get the best care and fast response in an emergency”

Peter Geraghty becomes the third person to be recognised as an Honorary Freeman of the Shire of Mt Marshall and the first for almost 40 years.

Cr Rachel Kirby, President of the Shire of Mt Marshall said “Peter has shown a passion for building the services in the district, a life of devotion to helping others and giving generously of his time, talents and energy to ensure that the residents of the entire sub-region have the best
possible access to emergency health care” she said “The Mukinbudin community is very proud of Peter.

He is one in a million, is very humble and has done a large amount of work in the background” said Shire of Mukinbudin President Cr Gary Shadbolt.

The Kununoppin Sub Centre covers 18,000km’s and is one of the largest in Western Australia, with the most ambulances.
